A Wedding Grandma Could Attend
When a bride learned her grandmother couldn't leave her senior living community during COVID, we brought the wedding to her, and five LA television crews along with it.

Challenge
During the COVID-19 shutdown, a San Francisco bride learned that her grandmother could not leave her senior living community to attend the wedding. Because they were extremely close, the bride decided to bring the wedding to her grandmother.
The celebration needed to follow strict health precautions while reassuring the media that residents, guests, and employees would remain protected.
Strategy
I recognized the emotional and visual appeal immediately: a granddaughter bringing her wedding to the grandmother who could not travel.
I prepared the location for media coverage by arranging chairs six feet apart in the courtyard, limiting the number of guests, coordinating temperature checks, and providing hand sanitizer in elegant lace gift bags.
I identified the best interviews and visuals, prepared the community's director for questions about COVID-19 safety, illnesses, and deaths, and gave newsrooms a clear description of what their crews would see and whom they could interview.
Every detail was designed to protect the residents while helping reporters tell a meaningful human-interest story.
Results
Five Los Angeles television news crews arrived to cover the wedding, the largest television turnout I had ever secured for a single event at that time.
The story received widespread local television coverage and gave the senior living community positive visibility during a difficult period for the industry.
Most importantly, the bride was able to celebrate with her grandmother while the community demonstrated its commitment to safety, compassion, and family connection.
